“Keep it simple, stupid!” – A design principle noted by the U.S. Navy

- “Keep it simple, stupid” is a powerful motto Jason has followed since he heard it from his high school teacher.
- People often believe they need to be wildly “extraordinary” and accomplish “complex” feats. In an interview, Warren Buffet once said, “you don’t have to do exceptional things to get exceptional results.”
- Instead of doing extraordinary things, strive to do simple things extraordinarily.
- In business, complex systems can cost you effectiveness and efficiency. Keep things at a level where it’s easy for everyone to understand.
- Simple systems and processes benefit you during turnover, as it isn’t difficult to pass on responsibilities if they are easy to understand. Pursue businesses that are simple and boring but deliver exceptional results.
- Business owners who dislike doing “boring” work and are distracted and chase down new, exciting, shiny objects usually deliver subpar results.
- Moving from “good to great” and “great to exceptional” takes a lot of time, effort, repetition, and going through the “boring” things that feel as if they don’t make any progress.
- As an example, Jason and his team are in the process of simplifying their business. He will consolidate his different business entities into one overarching brand called “Healthcare Boss” to avoid the complexity of using several accounts for several apps.
